A Look at Different Sandblaster Nozzles for Etching

As I stated in the previous post, there are mutiple different nozzle configurations to use for etching glass. What is the best nozzle setup to use?

I can suggest what will most likely work better, but it depends on your own preference and what technique your going to be using.  The second edition of the etching ebook talks about these setups and where you can get a some low cost setups.  Here is a list of some of the nozzle setup configurations that you can use:

1. Regular on and off ball valve- This setup comes with the sandblaster alot of times for a pressure pot. I don’t particularly like it because it requires two hands to adjust the abrasive and wears out quickly.

2. Deadman Valves- These are a better in my opinion when compared to the regular valve. It allows you to easily squeeze on and off the abrasive and is fairly cheap. You can find them for 20 bucks. The only thing that I don’t like about them is they are hard to keep open for a while since its spring loaded. I used it for the video on the basics of sandblasting glass

3.  Foot Valve- These can be easy to use and takes the effort needed to control abrasive flow off your hands and onto your feet instead.  I think its very nice but its expensive and wears out.

4. Pinch Valve- These can be very cheap and you can usually pick them up at a wine or brew supplies shop.  They allow you to easily control the amount of abrasive and is ideal for shading techniques.

5. PAB Blaster-  This is similar in operation of the Pinch Valve but is more comforatble to use and has a nice trigger setup.  The parts do not wear out very quick becasue the hose gets pinched down.  Everyonce in awhile yo will need to replace a small section of the hose.

6. Standard Siphon Nozzle- This is a on/off valve that is very inexpensive for siphon sandblasters.
