Stencils for Sandblasting Glass

Glenda asks: I am just getting started with this and I only etch on glassware and a few mirrors. I am starting my business now so that when I retire in a few years I will be established.
Where do you and others get your stencils?
And is this sand blasting? I would love to learn how to do all of this. Any info would be great.
Thank you
Glenda

My Response: Hi Glenda,

Sandblasting stencil being cut.Yes, I do mostly sandblasting processes. Most people make their own stencils. I talk mostly about both of these in the book I wrote.

There are a few ways to do this such as using hand cut stencils made with tracing paper, photoresist stencils, machine cut stencils, or vinyl cutters.

All you would have to do is use computer software and design out a stencil to your desired dimensions. You can add text or tweak the design. There are literally thousands of patterns available on the web and in design books that you can you.

If you want to make a reusable stencil, then you might want to order one from a dealer. You can design the pattern and send it to them. There are a lot of possibilities!

I hope the best for your business. Sounds like an exciting and fun retirement.

You can use a stencil if you need to. Myself & I believe most other people place a pattern printed out on paper behind the glass- then just engrave over the lines.

See my home page their is a tab that talks about rotary engraving. Thanks!
