Configuration of Sandblaster with Cabinet

Posted on May 18, 2010 by Eric Robert Posted in Blog Content

It is a very wise idea to use a type of contained area to do the sandblasting (link for more info on the process) for safety reasons, for dust control, and for the ability to recollect & reuse this abrasive many times.  The use of a sandblasting cabinet helps with all of this.  The cabinet has a viewing window to see what you’re doing, a sealed door to allow you to place items inside, and gloves sealed to the cabinet to allow you inside without exposing your arms’ skin.

Some people may think it is a bad idea to buy a pressure pot system such as the Harbor Freight’s brand because it doesn’t have the capabilities of automatically recollecting the abrasive mixture and be in a contained area within the cabinet.  There is actually a major advantage of buying a pressure pot like this, and it can easily be configured into a sandblasting cabinet.

The great advantage is not only that you’re saving a few thousand dollars in comparison to other pressure pot recollecting cabinets, but the fact that you have more possibilities with this system.  Portable sandblasters such as the Central Pneumatic brand allow you to use it outside of the cabinet for projects because they either don’t fit inside or the glass is permanently fixed elsewhere.  In essence, this configuration can be used for a portable on site system and a stationary system to recollect the abrasives.

In the next few sections, I will explain where to get a cabinet at a low cost and shown you the configurations of either the portable siphon or pressure pot systems.
