Sandblast Techniques on Glass

Posted on February 4, 2010 by Eric Robert Posted in Blog Content 2 Comments

Go through my site, and you will see that almost all my etchings are sandblasted.  Why do you ask?

Blasting techniques that I tyically use.Because sandblasting offers more techniques, which can create the most advanced artistic glass.  Some of the techniques can be also used together or mixed and matched.  Here are the techniques; some are simple and others are advanced shown below:

  1. Solid Surface Etched: This is a simple process of etching only the designed stencil.  This can be carved or lightly etched.
  2. Shaded and Etched: This is a more advanced etching that produces a gray-scale effect.
  3. Carved and Shaded: This is a mixture of shading and sandcarving effects on the same piece of glass.
  4. Carved and Painted: This adds a bit of color after the glass is carved.

Sans Soucie has great examples with pictures of all four of these techniques.  Check out their site, and if you’re looking for advanced glass art, give them a shout.  Their glass prices vary by the size, type of technique used, the design elements, and the background effects.

How do you sandblast a fitted window right into the edges and corners?
Is there a special attachment or what do most sandblasters do these days?? Do you know and can you tell me perhaps?

Vienna, I am not too sure I understand you. One thing I would like to know is why you stole one of my glass etching images and placed it on your site?

I don’t really care that much as long as you give me credit and link back to me though.
