Sandblast in Winter?

Posted on December 9, 2010 by Eric Robert Posted in Blog Content 2 Comments

Q: Can I keep/use a sandblast cabinet in my garage in winter? Will it work or freeze? Can I safely use it inside? I’m buying the harbor freight $199.00 one this weekend.

Equipment in the garage for sandblasting.A: Yes, there is no problem with keeping and using the sandblaster in the garage during the winter.  It can’t really freeze up unless you have a lot of left over moisture.  Other than that, I don’t sandblast glass as much in the winter because of the cold so if anyone else has had a problem, please leave a comment below.

You can sandblast in your basement workshop area, but I don’t recommend it unless the cabinet seals up the dust well.  The dust can surprisingly get everywhere and accumulate after a while.  If it is cold, you could also use a electric space heater or a kerosene heater in your garage.

@Travis, I think it will be fine too as long as you have a dust collector and it is away from furnished areas of the basement.
