Selling More Etched Mugs

Posted on April 12, 2010 by Eric Robert Posted in Blog Content, Sandcarving Examples 3 Comments

In the recent post, I showed you how I custom etch beer glasses for an acquaintance (link).  Long story short, the word got across, and her friends wanted personalized mugs also.  I included a picture below of nearly the same etching but with the different persons name this time.  It’s easier to make when the person wants the same one too because you can produce the stencil faster.  You’ll have the design on file and can be cut quickly so you won’t have to look for a design that might work.

Selling another etched glass beer mug based on the previous one.

Word of mouth can help bring you more sales, and if you get it spread like wildfire then you better get some back up help.  It can produce an avalanche of customers from just one person.  I listed below some ideas that may help get the word out about your business, without having to market very hard:

  •  Promote at a trade show giving a few free samples to take home with a business card.
  • Start doing it for a local charity and get free publicity.  You can give all the profit to the charity and make sure the revenue pays for the cost of materials.  You will get great publicity for free and help for a great cause.  Its a win win situation.   A lot of times your local news station will report this if you let them know.
  • Go to local beer or wine festivals for your beer mug etchings.  Where I’m from, we have lots of these in the spring and summer months.

Well, its still work, but for me, it would be just plain fun.  Even if these activities don’t produce a large profit, remember that the main objective is to get your name out there and create a snowball effect of demanding customers.  If a family member or friend sees your work, they might be like, “hey, I want one of them, where did you get it”.  Also, they might see the goodwill your doing to help charities and want to help you more than the other guy in town.

Just some ideas to help.  Let me know what you think.

Hi Tom, I don’t think I got that email. But maybe I responded before and could have went to the spam folder; I don’t always remember every conversion through email. Lots of people email me.

Whats your fan page? I have recently been trying to mess around with facebook and have a small page there too. Let me know so I can become a fan 🙂

Also what do you mean your looking for stencil resources? Someone that can do it for you or places to get materials like photoresists and sandmasks?

    Thanks for everyones comments!

    Let me know.
