Make Candy Jars, Candle Holder, & Flower Vase from Cut Wine Bottles

Posted on March 27, 2018 by Eric Robert Posted in Blog Content, Other Glass Supplies, Tutorials 2 Comments

Jesrina from the Youtube channel Neverending Creations was nice enough to test out our UpCycle EZ-Cut Bottle Cutter recently in the below video.

Jesrina’s DIY Home Decor Ideas

She created some cool project ideas from the video which were:

  1. Decorative Candy Jar– in this project she simply cut a wine bottle and put a modern wood ball on top to serve as a lid.
  2. Candle Holder/Cover– a creative idea which uses the top half of the cut bottle with the bottle neck instead of the bottom. Here she used a wooden birch pillar, placed a candle on top and covered it with the bottle.
  3. Flower Vase– these make great vases and the outside can be etched or decorated so that it doesn’t even look like it was a bottle.
  4. Cup– she also make a glass cup out of a Rogue craft beer bottle. These make great cups for folks that are fans of certain breweries. Rogue’s beer labels are actually printed on and permanent which makes a great candidate.

Prevent Glass Bumps from Imperfect Separation

We have been working to improve our instructions and training on cutting bottles perfect every time. As shown in the video, there were a couple of bottles that had a glass bump which Jesrina sanded down.

To prevent this from happening, the score line needs to be deeper by using more force while turning it.

In the newest instruction sheet included, I have been suggesting the cutter board should be placed lower that your waist, at minimum. I usually place it on the seat bottom of a chair. This allows one to easily push their weight down on the bottle with more leverage.

It makes things super easy!

Where to Order

We have 3 popular models on Amazon below.

  • Regular Bottle Cutter Kit
  • Deluxe Bottle Cutter Kit with heat tool
  • Ultimate Bottle Cutter Kit with heat tool and protective gloves (this is the kit shown in Jesrina’s video)

Thank you Jesrina!

Lastly, I would like to thank Jesrina again for testing our bottle cutter. Please check out her channel.

Very nice! I think my favorite is the flower vase although I like the candle with the birch looking wood. Can’t decide. My husband and I use different wine bottles and use a diamond bit to put holes in the bottom sides and put battery lights in them or just decorate the outside with different sayings, some with lights and some without! They look really sharp. We’ve sold a few. Loving doing different crafts. I’ve etched before too but just with acid stuff that you rinse off. Haven’t tried the sand etching yet. Little nervous about that, lol.
