Star Wars Etched Art with Stained Glass Borders

Posted on August 27, 2015 by Eric Robert Posted in Blog Content, Glass Art Spotlight, Sandcarving Examples 12 Comments

Star Wars etched glass

This shows the full view of the Star Wars etched glass with a beautiful stained glass around the border.

This featured etching was submitted to us by Brenda Weston. Not only is her theme cool with a Star Wars etched glass, but it is also interesting that she mixed her stained glass hobby in her work. Brenda placed a stained glass border pattern around her etched glass centerpiece. I thought that was a great idea that you could try as well!

Her submissions weren’t just Stars Wars etchings, but it also displays an etched eagle and a tribal type person which I like even further since it displays sandcarving techniques and I love the border.

Remember to click on the photos to see an enlarged view.

Brenda provided the below details:

Some of the below photos show a zoomed up version of the Star Wars glass.

A simpler design but still an interesting eagle pattern etched in glass.

I had considered the possibility of trying something like this, but hadn’t gotten round to it yet. I must say I like the effect. Excellent job!

On the Kachina figure how was she able to get different colors of gray. Like the leg section looks whiter to me along with the tips of the sunflower face. Beautiful work though !!

The Kachina was blasted in 2 layers. The whiter the effect the more it was sandblasted. Then I took off the 2nd layer and just applied a lighter ‘blast’. Do use opaque glass tho’ the Star Wars characters were on water glass and the effect isn’t as effective as the Kachina.

Forgot to add that I paint all my sandblasted pictures (not mugs etc.) I use translucent ceramic paint, rub into the blasted areas and buff quickly off. Use only on very smooth glass, not seeded or pitted glass.
