Does Armour Etch Harm Plumbing?

Posted on May 20, 2012 by Eric Robert Posted in Questions About Products, Etching, & Sandcarving 4 Comments

Does Armour Etch harm plumbing? (I’m concerned about rinsing it down the drain.)

Washing etching cream down the drain.Armour Etch and other hobby creams do not really harm plumbing, but it can etch your porcelain or ceramic sinks if any residue isn’t washed off quickly. People wash the acid cream down the drain all the time.
I always recommend that people wipe down most of the cream before it’s washed off for many reasons. This limits the amount being washed into the water system, and it can actually be reused- which many people aren’t aware of. That will save you some money also. Hydrofluoric acid, on the other hand can cause a problem and would be illegal to wash into the water system without proper disposal.

I accidentally left 2 small spots of etching cream in my porcelain sink. Is there something out there that I can get to bring the shine back into those 2 small spots?? It’s a brand new sink, otherwise i wouldn’t worry about it. Please help!!!!
    Sincerely Michelle Warvel

Michelle, I am sorry to hear about that. There isn’t anything that I can think of to get the shine back but hopefully someone else might leave a comment here

Resin – a tiny bit put in like a permanent varnish perhaps?

How will armour etch affect my septic system. e.g. pipes, tank, and field lines?
