Posted on May 30, 2012 by Eric Robert Posted in Other Pages

No matter what type of method you decided to use, all the etching processes can be dangerous. Of course some are more dangerous than the others, but even the less hazardous ones can be dangerous to your health if you are not diligent.

We are not responsible for any result of the processes discussed on our websites. Information here is to be used as guide to help you on your crafty quest. Make sure you use proper safety equipment and clothes such as abrasive cabinets, goggles, face shields, dust mask, repellent clothing, gloves, etc.

Precautions with Acid Cream

When using acid cream, it is wise to use gloves and safety glasses to prevent the chemicals getting on eyes or skin.

Precautions with Sandblasting or Carving

Etching with abrasive and using sandblaster methods takes more proper safety precautions. Be sure to use the most protective clothing and use the equipment in areas that will not destroy other objects around. Abrasive media or dust may damage nearby components. Also, its recommended sandblasting in a well ventilated area. Make sure you wear goggles, protective clothing, and dust mask or respirator mask.

Precautions with Hydrofluoric Acid

Acid processes requires proper safety techniques and should not be used unless trained.
