How deep will cream etch?

Posted on October 20, 2011 by Eric Robert Posted in Blog Content

Visitor Question About Depth of Acid Cream:

Cream using for glass.Greetings Eric! Stumbled on your page through a Google search and was wondering if you could tell me how deep of an etch is possible using the cream (time is not a concern)? How deep for the acid? Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.- Greg

Hi Greg,

All etching cream in the marketplace has mild forms of acids so it will not etch deep. You can see what the cream is made of here. In fact, the cream doesn’t really look very good and is more of an amateur hobby method. I always recommend to try the sandblasting method because it looks much better.

The other acid that is used is hydrofluoric acid and that will etch as deep as you’d like it to. This stuff is extremely dangerous though and not really used these days. I’m actually scared to use it because it can penetrate through your skin and eat at your bones. So I don’t recommend using it.
