Kyle Goodwin’s Sandcarving Work for Gifts & Decorations

Posted on January 10, 2014 by Eric Robert Posted in Blog Content, Glass Art Spotlight, Sandcarving Examples 12 Comments

I just wanted to share this video which I made a long time ago which features Kyle Goodwin’s sandcarving work. Back when I first connected with Kyle, I was very impressed with his work so I offered to create a video for him.

It basically just showcases items he sandcarved which varies from small gift projects on glass cups to larger decoration panels which can be place on a business or home.

This just shows some of the things that can be done with etching and carving glass. He was also a guest on our blog awhile back here. I just adhore his work and respect him greatly.

Watch the video that I made to get some ideas and I thought it was kind of fun.

Feel free to leave a comment or question about his work. And what did you think of the video? I did it for fun a few years ago.

One thing I noticed about your presentation! You very much underestimated the quality of your video! Being a novice at glass working, the video broadened my appreciation of the areas that manytimes are not recognized as artwork. I appreciate your allowing me the pleasure of viewing the video.

This is the kind of production that inspires people to try something they have never concidered! I thank you very much.

    Jon

thanks for sharing and your video certainly doesn’t look like a beginners video.

Fantastic work! How do you add color to etchings?

Hi Jon, most of Kyle’s work uses LED lighting to light up the etchings. I am not sure how he did the last cup with the blue waves at the bottom, but I am guessing he fused some glass frits in it (https://www.glassetchingsecrets.com/member/fusing-colors-in-etched-glass/).

I have actually used some impressive glass paints that look like stained glass and are permanently baked onto the glass. The stuff worked great

Do you use the smc sanding and imaging system, or are they all hand carved? They are beautiful.

I assume you make a wonderful living with your art work.

Love your work. Fantastic deep carving and shading. And the most important, the lighting!!! Its so hard to photograph glass but the shots are great and well lit.
