Mr. & Mrs. Etched Items Make Great Wedding Gifts

Posted on February 18, 2020 by Eric Robert Posted in Blog Content 4 Comments

mr and mrs wedding mug

This is another very simple wedding etched gift that was customized on a pair of beer mugs. Although it is very basic, this may give you some ideas whether you have a friend or family member getting married or want to etch them for a business.

I even mentioned what kind of business potential there may be in the wedding market here. The wedding market is an industry where folks may be more likely to spend on items like customized etchings. In 2019, the average wedding cost was almost $34,000.

Etched Beer Mugs vs Other Glass Items for Weddings

This project was meant to be a bachelorette party gift and to serve as a keepsake after the big day so a beer mug was used.

However, other items like champagne glasses may be more suitable for the wedding party on the wedding day. Just a heads up though- placing stencils on champagne glass are much harder to work with because of the curvature of the glass.

How this Wedding Etching Was Made

  1. For this project, I first found some free designs of interlocking wedding rings using the searching techniques explained in Module 2 of the member’s area.
  2. Then I used computer software to import the rings and added the text: “Mr. & Mrs” at the top and “Est. 2019” at the bottom for their wedding date.
  3. Used a stencil cutter to cut the stencil from the software and weeded out the areas needed to be etched.
  4. Placed stencil on glass and used a sandblaster.

Mr. & Mrs. Stencils for Etching

Mr. & Mrs. items in general has become a popular thing whether a couple recently got married or not. They are used for marking each others coffee mugs, or beer mug for the Mr. while wine glass for the Mrs. It is an interesting concept and we carry some basic Mr. & Mrs. stencils that you could use.

In addition to that, we carry various other wedding stencils.

I have made many for wedding gifts. Usually I do champagne glasses for the wedding couple. This saves them buying flutes for the wedding and is a nice gift as well. I have never had anyone who did not like it. Of course you have to give them prior to the wedding and I do that as early as possible so that they know not to buy any.

The Wedding Business is what started me in the etching business. It was an off shoot of our printing business (much of which was in printing wedding items). Retired from the print business in 2001 and retired from etching in 2007. It all worked out very well.

@Stephen, that is interesting to hear. Any advice for others to scale up business in etching products for weddings?
