Replacement Tungsten Carbide (TC1) Large Sandblaster Nozzle Tips by Kennametal

Posted on July 12, 2019 by Eric Robert Posted in Blog Content, Other Glass Supplies

If you use the large sandblaster nozzle system such as this or your holder utilizes the C1 nozzle tip, you can now use a longer lasting tungsten carbide nozzle tip by Kennametal. This is known as the TC1 nozzle. Since it is large, stretching 3.75″ long, it contains a lot of wear-resisting tungsten carbide which carries a higher price tag.

However, these are a huge upgrade if you blast on larger scales with hard abrasives such as aluminum oxide or coal slag. It reduces down time and number of times stopping to replace them in the middle of a project often, which is my biggest frustration. They can actually be more economical in the long run since you will have to get several ceramic nozzles to last as long as tungsten carbide.

tc1 vs c1 abrasive blast nozzleKennametal estimates their tungsten carbide can last up several times longer than ceramic depending on the abrasive grit used:

  • Aluminum oxide: up to 20 times longer
  • Coal Slag: up to 30 times longer

For softer abrasives or blasting for a short duration, their high quality C1 ceramic nozzle will probably work just fine for you. The large C1 nozzle is fairly inexpensive with costs ranging $10-$20 with shipping to your door.

Since many of us here use hard abrasives to etch glass, a hard nozzle material is more important, so this is a good alternative to the ceramic nozzle. And the tungsten carbide nozzle won’t cost 20 times the price of the C1 ceramic nozzle. So folks that currently use the C1 with hard abrasives or blast a large amount per year may want to consider this upgrade option.

TC1 size of large nozzleIf interested in this nozzle, be sure to note before ordering that this is a large nozzle in both length of 3.75″ and diameter of 1.13″, tapered to .63″. This is for larger nozzle holders. We do have the smaller, more typical size made in tungsten carbide by Kennametal as well.
