Sandblasted Wine Glass with Etched Stem

Posted on April 28, 2016 by Eric Robert Posted in Blog Content, Glass Art Spotlight 7 Comments

Etched wine glass around stem.

An Etched wine glass full blasted around stem, with a wolf etching!

Hello all — it has been a while since I posted, and I am trying to find the time to get back into things. To start it up again, Rex Linder shared this sandblasted wine glass. I wanted to point out the interesting idea he used by etching the stem of the glass.

This reminded me of a tip you could do as well by trying to do negative etchings as shown here.

With negative etchings or what I have called in the past, reverse etchings, your frosted area may be more vulnerable to fingerprints and oils making marks, but most of the times they seem to come out when the glasses are washed in the dishwasher.

Rex shared the below details about his work shown on the left:

I used old garnet dust from a commercial business, blasted at 30psi. I masked the glass with masking tape to blast the stem. The wolf pattern was cut from vinyl. This was my lively-hood 25 years ago. At 72 its nice to start again.

It is good to hear someone else getting back into it! Especially with the warmer season moving in, I plan to start up much more again. I hope to hear what projects you and the rest of the folks are doing! Remember to submit them here to get featured.

Thank you Rex! Please leave your comment love and question below.
